A Wedding Photobooth and Featured on Glamour.com

August 10, 2010

I wanted to quickly share some of my favorite images from Tawnny & Bob’s wedding Photobooth. This was a fun par-tay!

I think this is one of my fav Photobooth shots ever. :)

I also wanted to share a fun experiment that I tried with photos from Tawnny & Bob’s wedding- it’s a stop-motion video of a full wedding using images straight out of the camera (no retouching or post-processing). This idea had been in my head for a while, and Tawnny & Bob’s wedding was the perfect wedding to use for the experiment… I had posted it on Facebook and a few days later it was picked up by Glamour.com’s wedding blog Save the Date. I didn’t expect this to go anywhere… but the response has been so great I plan on experimenting more with this concept in the future!

Click here to see the feature… And click here to go directly to the video I posted on Vimeo if you do not see it below.

The tie pulling image is award winning! The composition keeps you in the action (it somehow seems ying yangish), what a priceless moment. Classic, one in a million shot. The tone and texture of the bg is perfect here!

Love the joy of the grandparents. Can’t help but smile.

Who is the dashing gentelman in Tawnny’s and Bob’s wedding pic’s? (from your Fav gallery)? His left hand is holding his jacket. I sear I saw that guy on a red carpet or some show or something. Someone told me that it is John Stamos brother?

Eternity Yacht Newport Beach Wedding: Tawnny & Bob’s Wedding!

July 29, 2010

I had been looking forward to Tawnny & Bob’s wedding for quite a while, and their wedding day did not disappoint! They were so obviously happy to be getting married that day- their energy, their smiles, the way they looked at each other- plus the fact that they were so willing to trust me with the photos- made for the perfect, fun day on Electra Cruises Eternity Yacht in Newport Beach, CA.

Tawnny wore a lovely Maggie Sottero gown- I adored the floral shoulder wrap!

Because we didn’t want to only do portraits on the yacht, we schedule plenty of time before we boarded to get some really great photos of the bride, groom and wedding party. I couldn’t get enough of these bricks!

Bob was looking super handsome… and I loved his orange tie!

First look expressions are the BEST!

I loved this parking structure!

Loved the vibrant pink and orange bouquet.

We took a few more minutes before the ceremony to do some portraits on the yacht. I loved the sassy garter and fence net stockings!

Gorgeous day to be floating around the bay.

Tawnny put on this amazing birdcage veil just before the ceremony. Loved this look.

Super happy to about to become a Mrs.

The ceremony…

I have known Bob for more than 10 years now and I, along with all of the other people observing the ceremony, were blown away with Bob’s amazing vows to Tawnny. They were sweet, sincere, funny, and perfect. Behind my camera, I got a little teary realizing how happy Bob was to be Tawnny’s husband.

A few more portraits… :)

The First Dance.

Bob and Tawnny- I am so very happy for you and am so glad I could be there to document your wedding day and to join in the celebration! I wish you all the best and can’t wait to see what life has in store for you. xo

Styled Shoot: Bachelorette Weekend In

July 25, 2010

Back in June, I photographed a super fun and special styled shoot with the amazing Jaimi Brooks of Fiore Beauty and Catherine of The Life Styled and I’ve been dying to be able to blog about it. The shoot was featured on the fabulous Junebug Weddings blog “What Junebug Loves” last week, so finally I can share some of the images here.

Jaimi and Catherine came up with the fashion- and beauty-centered shoot – a bachelorette weekend in – and I was so honored that they asked me to photograph it for them. The day was so much fun, and I am so happy with the images we were able to capture thanks to the amazing team and the lovely models.

Hair & makeup: Fiore Beauty

Styling: The Life Styled

Dresses provided by Shareen Vintage

Location: The London Hotel – West Hollywood

The daytime look. Our models from left to right: Elana, Mimi, Suzy and Cat.

Elana is a real life bride-to-be and was super excited to play the bachelorette for the shoot. Congrats to Elana!

How stunning is she? She looked amazing in this vintage red polka dot dress.

Suzy looking sassy.

Mimi was a natural in front of the camera and I loved this layered necklace look!

Cat looked so amazing in this vintage green lace dress! I just loved her energy.

Love.

The evening look. Elana was totally feeling this amazing vintage frock. Her hair was amazing!

A few bonus shots of Suzy in this amazing pink tulle explosion! I had so much fun with this.

What a great day and team of people. Thanks to everyone who made this possible and another thanks to Blair of Junebug Weddings for featuring the shoot! xo

    Hello Heather,
I’m a fellow photographer, just many, many steps behind you in starting my business. I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind sharing what lens you used to shoot the individual photos of the girls in this session — the photos are stunning. Thanks!

Practice: Photos from the Rodeo

July 17, 2010

I grew up in an area where many people owned horses and the rodeo was a fairly popular event. My family never owned horses, or had anything to do with the rodeo, but our neighbors when I was young owned horses that we had fun riding from time to time. Fun fact: I actually rode a pony in a Toys for Tots horse show one time… I got 3rd place in an event with only three riders… that was awesome.

The other weekend, my sister called me to go with her and some friends to the rodeo last-minute because a friend would be riding the flags around the arena… Though I’m not sure how I feel about the rodeo, I never turn down the opportunity to do something new and different- especially when I can bring my camera along. I mostly went just to have fun with friends, but I also used it as an opportunity to practice photographing things in a different way.

I feel alive behind a camera. Being able to be creative and photograph things enhances any new experience for me, and the rodeo was so visually different from anything I’m used to seeing. Here are some of my favorite photos I got that day in which I had fun with anticipation and composition.

The closest I will ever get to having four bulls posing for my camera.

Apparently, this is what bulls look like when they are getting ready to charge… this was my last shot of this guy…

All the riders wore pink that night in support of breast cancer awareness.
