Downtown LA Wedding Photos – Jonathan Club – Stacy & Clark

July 1, 2010

Back in May I photographed Stacy and Clark’s beautiful, sophisticated wedding with Meg Perotti at the Jonathan Club in Downtown Los Angeles. I absolutely love shooting downtown, and after this wedding, decided that I’m going to try to do it much more often. The light, the textures, the reflections, the energy… love it all!

Stacy and Clark had such an amazing wedding day- their happiness and excitement to marry one another was palpable… and their vows were some of the most beautiful vows I have ever heard and seen. Here are some of my favorite images from the day, which I was able to shoot alongside both Meg and Regis, making this day even better. :)

Stacy looked absolutely gorgeous in this Ines di Santo gown.

We all walked around the corner for some porteaits in the the city. I shot some of Clark and the guys while Meg was photographing the ladies.

Clark was the definition of dashing in his formal tuxedo.

The whole wedding party.

I LOVED this glass wall that perfectly reflected the scene of the city behind us. So perfect.

The ceremony was incredible. One of the most memorable I’ve ever witnessed…

Clark mentioned back on their first date that he wanted to find a woman who could speak French. While Stacy had taken a few French classes when she was young, she was nowhere near fluent. So, for the months leading up to the wedding, she secretly was taking French lessons so that she could say her vows in French. It really was so special, and it was obvious that Clark fell in love with her all over again. (See the video embedded below to hear the vows and see video highlights from the day.)

Married!

Congratulations to Stacy and Clark! And don’t forget to check out Meg’s post about the wedding here.

The videographer for the wedding was Isabel Gonzales and her team perfectly captured the day. The trailer below shows highlights from the day including the lovely vows. Watch it- it’s beautiful.

Ace Hotel Engagement Photos: A Slideshow

June 22, 2010

I used to make slideshows quite a bit, but stopped for a while for no particular reason. I’ve been wanting to get back to making slideshows of some shoots because I really love presenting my work in this way- I think presenting this many images together with music is great for a final product of a shoot and I just love how you can convey the mood of the shoot in an entirely new way.

The hardest part for me is to figure out what music to use to complete the experience of viewing the photos. I’m constantly on the look out for good slideshow music that matches the feel I want for the images, so if you have any suggestions for great slideshow songs, I’d love for you to leave a comment!

Here is a slideshow I just created for Lindsey and Eli’s Ace Hotel engagement session I shot last month. (Click here and here to see the previous posts.) More slideshows will be coming soon! :)

As a side note, if you’re a photographer and want to know more about making slideshows, I really love ShowitWeb. It’s so easy to use and is made by the same great people that created Showit Sites, which I used to design and develop my Web site. If you don’t know about them, you should. :)

Clarke Estate Wedding Photos: Rosemary & Chris

June 16, 2010

I photographed Rosemary & Chris’ wedding last month with Meg Perotti… Meg and Rosemary are great friends who used to work together. I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Rosemary over the past few years through Meg, and she is the sweetest. She is also a really talented writer and has a great blog on Glamour.com – check it out here!

Meg was half photographer, half guest at the wedding, and it was my pleasure to photograph alongside her until it was party time and she got down on the dance floor with the rest of the guests. ;-)

The Clarke Estate in Santa Fe Springs is such a cool, random venue! Between the great architecture, bright orange accents, beautiful light and giant bamboo gardens, I think I could shoot there all day and not get bored. Here are some of my favorite images from Rosemary and Chris’ beautiful day. Be sure to check out Meg’s blog for many more.

Rosemary was a stunning, glowing, happy, beautiful bride. Seriously… check her out!

A favorite. :)

Chris brought the fierceness, too.

I so loved how they coordinated their wedding colors with the great colors of the venue. And I loved how Chris paired his J.Crew suit with these white Vans and pink argyle socks! Such a fun look perfect for their wedding!

Great, simple and bright pink and orange details

Apparently, break dancing at weddings is a trend now… at least it has been at the weddings I’ve recently photographed. This is Rosemary’s younger brother bustin’ a move… love it!

Rosemary and Chris- Congratulations!! I wish you all the best! xoxo

Palm Desert Wedding: Jill & Brian

June 7, 2010

Jill and Brian’s wedding was such a joy to photograph because neither one of them stopped smiling the entire day. After photographing their engagement session, I knew that this is how their wedding day would be.. filled with fun and joy and surrounded by all of their friends and family… it was a perfect day in the desert.

Venue: Miramonte Resort & Spa

Coordinator: Laurie Lund – Events Department

Jill is so bubbly and could not stop smiling the entire day. Plus, she rocked those gorgeous orchids in her hair- loved!

I just loved the bridesmaids dresses she chose, and each of them wore this awesome statement necklace. Loved it!

Just before we left for the ceremony, Brian sent Jill a text: “I’m so excited. I can’t wait.” How cute is that??

Jill’s bouquet was gorgeous- and she completed it with this adorable customized charm she found on Etsy that had Brian & Jill’s initials and wedding date on one side, and “to have” on the other. Etsy is a must-try online mecca for anything hand-crafted- I could get lost on that site for hours! If you haven’t checked it out yet, you must soon! And don’t have your credit card nearby unless you plan to spend… lots. :)

It was just a bit windy during portrait time… I always love a good wind gust. :)

How fabulous was the back of her dress?

Brian, of course, was so handsome in his charcoal suit. He also didn’t disappoint with his incredible modeling skills, which I first learned about shooting their e-session.

The amazing ceremony took place at Sacred Heart Church in Palm Desert. I loved what Reverend Lincoln had to say about Jill and Brian, and about marriage and love. I wish I could have written it all down…

The whole wedding party looking mighty fine.

The day of their engagement session, I learned that Jill and Brian have a thing for jumping photos, so of course we had to do at least one on the wedding day. I’m thoroughly impressed by the height they both got!

Just before the reception, Jill and Brian had a few moments alone in a room that happened to have a piano- I sneaked in for a few shots of Brian serenading Jill. I had no idea that Brian was a musician- I just loved this moment.

Gotta love Summer nights in the desert.

The toasts were complete with emotional, teary-eyed moments…

And those of boisterous laughter…

And another thing I learned about Brian the night of the wedding… he used to be a break dancer!! So. COOL.

Jill and Brian- You are so, so delightful and I loved being able to photograph your wedding! I’m so happy for you both and with you all the happiness in your future together. :)
