I did a quick shoot of Charlotte yesterday for Brian’s Valentine card… oh, she makes me so happy. <3

Because Valentine’s Day is just around the corner (and so is the start of another wedding season!), I’m offering 25% off the normal rate for Boudoir Sessions booked between now and February 11th! The session must be scheduled to be photographed on or before April 6th. I have a limited number of session dates available, so email me soon if you’d like more information. This has been a very long time coming, but today is finally the day I’m launching my brand new blog with a brand new look! I’m keeping my same logo (because I love it) but I wanted to give my overall blog and main site a major revamp and face lift. I loved the old aqua background, but I decided it was time to go a little fresher and cleaner with simple white. I love the way this makes the images really stand out and just gives my overall brand and web presence a cleaner, more modern feel. If you look around, you’ll see other changes, too, like better comment functionality, related posts for each and every post you view, post image previews at the top, and more sleek integration with my main portfolio site (which, by the way, will be launched very soon!) When I started designing this new space of mine, I knew I wanted it to feel fresher, and I knew I wanted a space that would really showcase the images and let them speak for themselves, and I really feel like we’ve accomplished that.

I say “we” because none of this would have been possible without the work of my awesome, talented, kind and patient programmer who made my design and vision really become reality – Peter Medina of Pete Medina Creative. He is so great and is a master of WordPress and all things code-related. It was very much a collaborative effort with many challenges along the way, and Peter was just fantastic at every step. I’m so happy to finally be launching this new blog and hope you’ll find it fun and easy to browse! I hope you’ll take a few minutes to look around, leave a comment so I know you were here, and come back often as I have many posts I’ve been waiting to publish until this new blog was launched. Happy Tuesday, everyone!

I now attend with a new mindset. I don’t go to soak in all the knowledge I possibly can like I did those first few years. I now go to connect with other photographers, see the people I’ve become friends with over the years and have real conversations about our businesses, our work, etc. These kinds of connections and conversations can help to motivate and inspire me in ways that a platform speaker just can’t and that motivation and inspiration is really what benefits me most now at this stage in my career. Having said that, I wouldn’t be in the place I am now without those platform speakers and tips and tricks I picked up along the way…

I say this every year, but if you’re a photographer and you’ve never been to WPPI– go. It’s educational and inspiring and really so much fun. And if you see me walking around, say hello! I’d love to meet you!

And because I am currently working on an edit, I thought I’d post a quick photo. This shot looks nothing like my usual work, and that’s why I love it. More from this San Francisco engagement session on Wednesday!

It’s that time of year again! Twice a year, these amazing ladies and I head out on a trip together for a few days of talking, laughing, sipping, eating, shooting, exploring, and just hanging out together. This trip started in 2010 as a way to network with other photographers we kind of knew… it has evolved into a reunion of true friends who just really like to hang out together. This time around, our trip will take us to Joshua Tree for some desert adventures.

Being a photographer, I have lots of really talented photographer friends who are taking amazing, inspirational, interesting and sometimes just fun images on their phones. Instagram allows them to post them and for me to enjoy them pretty much instantaneously… it’s a fun way to stay in touch with friends who share a passion for imagery like I do, but to also see what people are seeing and sharing from their daily lives.

The biggest reason why I love the app is that it allows, and even encourages, me to continuously be looking for interesting photos in my daily life. It’s a way I can stay inspired even when I don’t have my big camera in tow. It gets me to use the camera on my iPhone more often and in more interesting ways than ever before. I strongly feel that one has to continually practice being creative to keep that part of your mind sharp, and Instagram has encouraged me to do that in such a convenient way. Plus, I get to document my life in a really interesting way by snapping away at random things I see throughout the day.

Now, when I go out, even with just the camera on my phone, I feel confident that I can continue to practice my craft while documenting my life one square photo at a time.

I’m just beginning to tap into the power of the iPhone camera by checking out photo apps that are out there. I’ve already been having some fun with iDarkroom and Diptic along with a few others. If you have a favorite photo app for the iPhone I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
