It’s one of those years in my life that will serve as a milestone and that has truly proven just how much one’s life can change in just 365 days. It has been simultaneously the busiest, most stressful, most successful, happiest and best year of my life.

First and foremost, this year has been an incredible year for me personally having fallen in love with and married the love of my life. One day, I was totally happy being single- working and focusing on my businesses and what I wanted from life. Quite literally, the next day I had met this amazing person who changed my idea of happiness and from then on I knew that I didn’t ever want to experience anything without him by my side. I know I have yet to do a full post about our wedding, but I hope to do that early in the new year. It was definitely one of the best days of my life and I’m looking forward to sharing more about it. :)

Professionally, this has been the best year yet. I exceeded many of the goals I had for my company and even started a secondary company with one of my best friends (I will be posting more about that in 2012). I shot so many amazing weddings this year for clients who understand and appreciate my vision and approach to photographing weddings, which makes my work even more creatively fulfilling. I also photographed some great commercial and studio sessions- accomplishing another goal of mine to build up the commercial side of my business, which I hope to continue to do next year. Finally, I am almost ready to launch a brand new Web site and blog- something I’ve been wanting to do all year and finally made time for in the past month or so. This new design is so much more me and I can’t wait to unveil the whole new look hopefully by the end of January!

Looking back on this year truly makes me smile, but I smile even bigger when thinking about 2012 and all I know it has in store for me, and everything I have yet to find out. At this time last year, I could never have guessed what 2011 would bring to my life, and I know 2012 has just as much potential to surprise me in amazing ways.

I have never posted a full “Best of” post before because I always found it so overwhelming to go back through all of my photos and select my favorites. So, this year I did something a little different. The below images are images that for some reason I remember the most. They all are images that made an impression on my mind and lingered in my memories… and they are all images that flash in my head when I think about the images that creatively define my 2011. They are in completely random order- and some of the sessions featured haven’t even made it to the blog yet. So many images from this year linger in my head, so I created this collage rather than posting them all individually. Seeing them all together like this makes me smile and I hope you enjoy viewing them, too.

This has been an incredible year for me both professionally and personally. It’s amazing to think how much has happened with my business and in my life in the past 11 months and I’m so grateful for everything- it’s all been amazing.

Melissa & David’s engagement session was my last engagement session in 2011 and it couldn’t have been a better session. They are two of the nicest people and I’m so excited to photograph their glamorous wedding next year. They chose the streets of Beverly Hills as their backdrop and I loved what we found in that area! Just goes to show that any location can be made into a great backdrop for photos. :)

 

I absolutlely loved Melissa’s dress! The pattern, the colors, the sparkles… so great!

I was so happy that Melissa decided to wear this coral top for the second half of the session- went perfectly with the fall colors in this ivy! Could shoot a whole session just right here. :)

A definite favorite.

Melissa is a great interior designer and when we saw this pattern we both lit up with excitement. The light was gone by this time, but I still love how we were able to have some fun with it as a background.

I love.

I still have a few shoots to post from 2011 that I’m sure I’ll be posting into the new year. Looking forward to sharing those soon!

I met Selene on a shoot last year- she was the videographer. We clicked right away, became Facebook buddies and I soon found out that she shares my appreciation for unique imagery. She got engaged earlier this year and I was honored to hear from her that she wanted me to photograph a session for them! You see, Selene is a super talented videographer/cinematographer and I knew she had a particular vision, so it was such an honor that she thought I could help bring that to life.

I became even more excited about the session when she sent me her mood board and explained that she wanted to do the session at Coney Island with a professional juggler and firebreather! Seriously? So cool. Here are my favorite images from the session.

New York has always been such a magical city to me- the energy and the movement of the city is just so different from that of here in LA and I love it. Not to mention, Fall is an amazing time to go- the leaves in the park, the brisk weather, the people walking around in their scarves and jackets. This session totally feels like Fall and I just love it! And don’t let Lisa’s outfit fool you- it was really cold and she was a champ!

We started the session at the Seaport because Lisa loved the feeling of the exposed brick and cobblestone streets that can be found there. I loved it, too!

Then it was off to Central Park for a change of scenery. :)

One favorite.And another big time favorite. :)

My then fiance (and now husband!) came with me on the shoot and caught some great shots of Lisa & Doug as well as of me working behind-the-scenes. :)

They both work for Disney- she’s helps to design and dress interiors for the parks and he is a landscape architect. They are creative, fun, stylish and some of the nicest people. I was so happy when they asked me to photograph their wedding (coming up in January!) and just as delighted to hear they wanted to do their engagement session in comic book store! I’m always eager to shoot in new locations and environments, and knew this would be a fun shoot. :)

Five years ago they were both on vacation in Thailand and happened to meet one night in Bangkok. Since then, they’ve had a long-distance relationship, lived together in England, now live in Australia and are planning a wedding in Las Vegas next year. Talk about a worldly couple! Since they live all the way down under, Amber booked me completely over email. The first time I “met” her was over Skype a few months ago, and I knew I liked her right away. I was so excited to finally meet them in person a couple weeks ago here in LA while they were in town on vacation and get started on the wedding planning. We had so much fun.

We started the shoot at LACMA where they have this awesome Urban Light Sculpture. I love shooting there. And how amazing is Amber’s dress?? I loved the color!

Fierce.

Then we headed down to the beach near the Santa Monica pier for a few California beach shots.

Since they booked from afar, we met for the first time on the day of their engagement session. Josh is a surfer and is originally from Southern California so they wanted something beachy and relaxed for their session. We chose to meet up in Malibu for a casual, sunset session. I love, love these images and think they captured exactly the look we wanted.

A trip to Disneyland would not be complete without a ride on the Tea Cups!

These neon heels were seriously SUCH a hit! Obviously, I was ecstatic when I saw she was going to wear these, but people all over the park were also smitten with them… three men even came up to her separately just to comment on how awesome they were.

They had been planning a trip to LA together for a vacation and wanted to take their engagement photos here since this is where their relationship began. I was honored to be asked and so enjoyed my time with them!

This was a big trip for them, and they wanted photos in three locations so we arranged a 2-day engagement session. This first day was shot in Manhattan Beach and on 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica. Part 2 at Disneyland will be posted soon!

Before they booked, I was able to “meet” Sylvia & Andy over Skype. I just love technology for allowing me to have a face-to-face meeting with my clients from afar before our sessions- it makes meeting them in person the day of their session so much easier. During our Skype meeting, Sylvia was so sweet and bubbly, I really felt we would have a great time shooting together… and then she showed up in this cobalt blue maxi dress, and that feeling was solidified. :) Gorgeous!!


We had some really pretty light under the pier.

After sunset in Manhattan Beach, we headed to 3rd Street Promenade for some editorial-style night shots. How fabulous is Sylvia’s dress?
