My favorite question to ask a couple is the question of how they met. I love hearing how a couple’s story together began, and in this career I hear some truly amazing stories of how two people can connect, fall in love, and decide to spend the rest of their lives with each other. When I asked Katie and Matt how they met, Katie looked at Matt, smiled a huge smile and proceeded to tell me how she had a huge crush on him in high school… I believe she actually even used the word obsessed– you know, in that sweetly twitterpated school girl kind of way. They didn’t start dating right away, but Matt soon came around and years later their love for each other is so obvious- Katie still looks at Matt with the admiration of a high school girl with a big crush and Matt looks at Katie like the man who can’t wait to marry her.
I first met Katie and Matt when Katie was a bridesmaid in Sam & Justin’s wedding back in 2009. We booked their wedding over phone and email so I hadn’t seen them since, but when we met near Mulholland Drive on the day of their engagement session, it was as if I was meeting up with old friends. They are kind, lovely, fun and made our afternoon together so fun. Here are my favorite images from their shoot.
Katie and Matt are both from Los Angeles so they wanted a setting that was natural, yet quintessential LA. What’s better than the famous Mulholland Drive as the backdrop for such a session?

Then we headed down the hill to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art to make use of their amazing Urban Light exhibit. Love this display.
