I always love getting to go up to Northern California every chance I get. Actually, I just love getting to venture out of LA from time to time no matter where I go, but I especially love traveling up north for weddings because it allows me to have fun shooting while at the same time giving me an excuse to get together with friends and family who live up there.
I was happy to join my friend Chris to help shoot Amie and Nic’s great backyard wedding near Stockton, CA a few weekends ago. The wedding was held in the big, beautiful backyard of Nic’s family home- we were graced with some great light which made for some great photos. Here are a few of my favorite shots from the wedding, which just happen to be mostly portraits of the happy bride and groom.
Amie looked gorgeous. She was obviously a happy bride.
Nic looking handsome…
As often as possible, I like to experiment with different types of shooting… Here I was experimenting with pockets of harsh light and really love the result.
I loved these red trees that were on the property!
The First Dance:
The party was a part-tay.
Amie & Nic- Congratulations! Wish you all the best!
As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I spent a few days in Palm Springs at the Ace Hotel with 9 other women photographers – we wanted the opportunity to hang out, have fun and get to know one another a little better so we all ventured out to the hot desert for some pool/cocktail/fun/conversation action. I knew I would have a good time, but I didn’t know that we would all connect so well! It was such a great experience being with so many kind, fun, creative women… I enjoyed, admired and was inspired by each one of them.
While there, we of course took tons of photos – we had our iPhones, our DSLR cameras, a few Instax cameras, point-and-shoots… pretty much any type of camera you could imagine. We all posted frequently to our tumblr so we could have one central location to share photos. (Tumblr is awesome, by the way! I’ve started a personal tumblr and plan to do something fun with it soon.) If you have looked at our group tumblr, you have seen most of the photos I am sharing here, but I wanted to do a proper blog post about the trip as well.
We have decided to take a similar trip twice a year since the first one was so much fun! I’m so looking forward to the future trips with all of these great people!
My goal for this trip was to extend my creative boundaries and experiment with portrait photography and different styles of processing… I’m a firm believer in always trying something new and different, always trying to get better while looking for new perspectives and pushing the creative boundaries. I love the opportunity to shoot completely for myself- no expectations…
All 10 of us…
Ashley Rose – a few shots of her prego looking amazing.
I also did a series of a bunch of the ladies in this van on the property… had some fun with it.
I wanted to quickly share some of my favorite images from Tawnny & Bob’s wedding Photobooth. This was a fun par-tay!
I think this is one of my fav Photobooth shots ever.
I also wanted to share a fun experiment that I tried with photos from Tawnny & Bob’s wedding- it’s a stop-motion video of a full wedding using images straight out of the camera (no retouching or post-processing). This idea had been in my head for a while, and Tawnny & Bob’s wedding was the perfect wedding to use for the experiment… I had posted it on Facebook and a few days later it was picked up by Glamour.com’s wedding blog Save the Date. I didn’t expect this to go anywhere… but the response has been so great I plan on experimenting more with this concept in the future!
