Practice: Photos from the Rodeo

7.17.10 | My Life

I grew up in an area where many people owned horses and the rodeo was a fairly popular event. My family never owned horses, or had anything to do with the rodeo, but our neighbors when I was young owned horses that we had fun riding from time to time. Fun fact: I actually rode a pony in a Toys for Tots horse show one time… I got 3rd place in an event with only three riders… that was awesome.

The other weekend, my sister called me to go with her and some friends to the rodeo last-minute because a friend would be riding the flags around the arena… Though I’m not sure how I feel about the rodeo, I never turn down the opportunity to do something new and different- especially when I can bring my camera along. I mostly went just to have fun with friends, but I also used it as an opportunity to practice photographing things in a different way.

I feel alive behind a camera. Being able to be creative and photograph things enhances any new experience for me, and the rodeo was so visually different from anything I’m used to seeing. Here are some of my favorite photos I got that day in which I had fun with anticipation and composition.

The closest I will ever get to having four bulls posing for my camera.

Apparently, this is what bulls look like when they are getting ready to charge… this was my last shot of this guy…

All the riders wore pink that night in support of breast cancer awareness.

Your photo journalist side emerged in this series. Dramatic. I felt the heat and the dust.

Bel Air Bay Club Wedding: Lauren & AJ’s Photobooth!

7.7.10 | Wedding Photos

I set up a very fun Photobooth at Lauren & AJ’s wedding I shot at the beautiful Bel Air Bay Club a few weeks ago. My favorite images from the wedding will be posted sometime soon. In the meantime, here are a few of my favorite images from the par-tay!

There were so many fun people at this wedding… Lauren and AJ have some awesome friends and family!

Can’t resist a good glasses Photobooth shot.

Thanks to the fabulous coordinator Beth Helmstetter, we had these little chalkboards as props… such a fun idea!

AJ’s parents recreating a photo from their wedding day. :)

Sassy bridesmaids!

I didn’t tell them to write this… I promise. But, I love them for it. ;)

Rah!

I loved that Lauren & AJ brought along the record player and records we used in their engagement session for the Photobooth. :)

These are too funny! Everyone looks like they’re giddy. Thanks for sacrificing yourself at the end of the slide for these shots. You’re a real pro :)

These are so fun. We just bought a slip and slide for the girls. I thought I was too big to go on it but I guess not ;)
