Seattle Photo Sessions: Darienne's Senior Portraits

August 21, 2009

My last photo session I had scheduled in Seattle was a senior portrait session for the lovely Darienne. Danielle, Darienne’s mom, contacted me about doing some really fun portraits of her daughter to commemorate her senior year of high school which will begin in just a few weeks.

I remember this time in my life: preparing for the last year of high school and thinking about life after graduation was so consuming. It really is a special time in a person’s life and I look back at my senior year with fond memories.

Darienne is so smart, sweet, beautiful, stylish and totally knew how to rock the camera. She chose all of her own outfits for the shoot, all of which I absolutely loved. It was so great to be able to photograph her and really highlight her personality all around Olympic Sculpture Park and Pier 70 in Seattle. During the shoot we talked a little about high school and what she plans to do after she graduates in June. I only spent about an hour with her, but in that short time I learned that Darienne is a very speical young lady and will no doubt accomplish many great things in the years to come. I was honored to have been asked to photograph some fun portraits to celebrate her Senior year and all that it has in store for her.

A favorite from the session. Loved this wall, the colors, her eyes… everything.

See what I mean by Darienne rocking the camera? She needed no direction at all! She plans to be a lawyer or doctor some day, but she’ll be the most photogenic lawyer or doctor ever.

She’s got such a great laugh and smile… could light up a room.

I have to thank Danielle for pointing out these tree shadows. LOVE.

Love the color even more.

Finally, we wanted to document how Darienne looks on a daily basis– rocking her “Rent” sweatshirt with her iPod on. Love it.

Darienne– You are amazing! I wish you all the best in your Senior year and would like to offer you a little advice: Study hard, but don’t forget to have so much fun and enjoy yourself! :-)

Happy Friday, everyone! Speaking of high school, come back soon for an awesome wedding I photographed for one of my high school friends!

Seattle Family Photo Sessions: Tiffne, Greg, Ali and Noah

August 20, 2009

In talking to Tiffne in the weeks leading up to their session, I learned that she was a really fun mom looking for something fun and unique in her family photos… right up my alley! She pointed out some specific images on my blog and Web site that she really liked and wanted to incorporate similar concepts in her family’s session. I always love when clients come to me with some of their own ideas– it helps me to really focus on the style of shoot they want and it also allows me to incorporate elements of their personalities I might otherwise not have known.

I met with Tiffne, Greg, Ali and Noah at the Space Needle and we had a blast walking all over that little area, finding color and interesting backgrounds for their photos.

This family is so great. They seem to really have a great time together and always find something to laugh about.

Had to get the Space Needle in there somehow.

heatherkincaid_spaceneedle_03

There is a carnival at the base of the Space Needle so I thought it would be fun to hop in the ferris wheel for a few shots. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do for a photo shoot, so now I can check that off my concept list! :) Love this one of Tiffne and Greg enjoying the view from the top!

heatherkincaid_spaceneedle_04

The whole fam.

heatherkincaid_spaceneedle_05

I had done this concept in a Photobooth before and Tiffne loved it so much she wanted me to do similar photos of each of her kids. LOVE this one of Ali.

heatherkincaid_spaceneedle_06

Noah’s leaves were a little less behaved but we worked it out.

heatherkincaid_spaceneedle_07

This building was awesome! It’s the Experience Music Project/Science Fiction Museum and reminds me of a colorful Walt Disney Concert Hall. So cool!

heatherkincaid_spaceneedle_08

A sweet one of Tiffne and Greg.

heatherkincaid_spaceneedle_09

Tiffne made the kids put away their cell phones for the entire shoot, so at the end of our time together I had them break them out for some much needed texting. One hour without texting for a teenager must have been unbearable… ;) I think these photos are going to be so funny in 3-5 years when these phones are totally obsolete. I think back at my first cell phone ever, the Nokia 5190, and laugh about the interchangeable cover and colorless screen. It was the coolest!

heatherkincaid_spaceneedle_10

Thanks so much Tiffne, Greg, Ali and Noah! You all were so creative and energetic! I really loved spending time with you guys and look forward to hanging out again!

Seattle Family Photo Sessions: Julie, Pat, Katie, Andrew and Matthew

August 19, 2009

I photographed this session up in Seattle on the one sunny day I experienced while on my trip. It was gorgeous! I met Julie and her wonderful family at Olympic Sculpture Park, which I loved. Modern art, city background and right on the water… so awesome. Here are my favorites from their session.

Two of my favorite images of the whole family. Such a good-looking group!

Just the kids being kids. They all seem to get along so well. Love to see it.

heatherkincaid_olympicpark_03

Julie and Pat really wanted to incorporate the Seattle Post-Intelligencer building since it’s such an important landmark to the city.

heatherkincaid_olympicpark_04

Love this industrial wall we found down by Pier 70.

My favorite of Katie… love the eyes!

Seattle Family Photo Sessions: Liz, Steve, Michael and Carli

August 18, 2009

I photographed Liz and Steve’s wedding in May in Palm Desert, CA, which is how I was introduced to her family and friends for the Seattle sessions. I had the pleasure of being able to photograph her and her beautiful family again on Whidbey Island at the family beach house.

Here are my favorites from her family session.

Baby Carli was only 2 weeks old on the day of Liz and Steve’s wedding. She was tiny! Now, 3 months later, she is still so precious and small but I am starting to see her little personality develop. Such an amazing thing to be able to document.

heatherkincaid_whidbeyisland2_01

I think this is my favorite from the session. I even caught Carli smiling a the camera!

heatherkincaid_whidbeyisland2_02

Their dog Libby (who looks a lot like Boone from Ann’s session, but I assure you is a different dog…) snuck into a few shots. :)

heatherkincaid_whidbeyisland2_03

heatherkincaid_whidbeyisland2_04

Carli started to get a little sleepy… Michael is such a great older brother.

heatherkincaid_whidbeyisland2_05

Nothing like a father, his son and their dog playing fetch on a beach.

heatherkincaid_whidbeyisland2_06

Father and daughter.

heatherkincaid_whidbeyisland2_07Loved this setting.

heatherkincaid_whidbeyisland2_08

Any photo of Liz laughing is a favorite. I’ve said it before, but her laugh is infectious.

heatherkincaid_whidbeyisland2_09

Liz, Steve, Michael and Carli — You are such a beautiful, fun family. I was so happy to have been able to spend sometime with you guys in your neck of the woods!

Seattle Family Photo Sessions: Ann, Zuri, Jared and Ayden

August 17, 2009

Two of the family sessions I photographed while up in Seattle were at the family beach house on Whidbey Island during their annual family volley ball tournament. (How cool is it that they do an annual family volley ball tournament??)  My sister and my friend Laurel were able to make the weekend trip with me (more on our whole trip soon) so we made the venture out to Whidbey together in our awesome rental car– a sassy, red Pontiac Vibe. ;-)

This trip to Whidbey marked my first trip on a ferry and a beautiful drive through the foresty/country/beautiful landscape of the Northwest which I had never before seen. Good times.

Ann is such a fun person! She was sooooo wonderful in helping me to plan the weekend photo sessions (contacting families, recommending shooting locations, helping with general logistics) … I couldn’t have made everything work as smoothly as it did without her assistance. Thanks, Ann! You rock! :)

Here are my favorite images from the session with Ann and Zuri and their awesome sons Jared and Ayden. Such a cute, energetic family.

It was a gray, windy day on Whidbey, but we still had some fun!

Great-looking boys…

heatherkincaid_whidbeyisland_03

This is Boone. Boone is not their dog, but he felt like being in the family photos anyway.
