Noel & Paul’s Wedding: Tehachapi, CA

Some people know that I, in addition to my full-time photography business, teach digital media and Photoshop classes at a community college. I’ve been teaching 1 class a semester for about 3 1/2 years and really enjoy being able to share my knowledge of Photoshop and other Adobe software with students who are eager to learn. Not only does it get me away from my desk and computer screen for a few hours during the week, it allows me to meet new people and talk to others interested in the field of photography, digital media and design. A couple of semesters ago, Noel was one of my students and I was so happy that she asked me to be her wedding photographer. She is just the sweetest girl and it was really fun for me to meet her family, friends and Paul after all of our time together in class.

Noel and Paul had a really beautiful wedding at a church and a quaint reception at her parents house in the Tehachapi mountains of Southern California. Here are my favorite photos from the day…

Mike & Raci’s Engagement Session

I was friends with both Mike and Raci in high school, but I’m pretty sure they were never friends with each other. So, when I heard they were dating a few years ago after reuniting at UC Santa Barbara, I was pretty surprised. It seemed, at the time, an odd match until I was able to hang out with them both for the first time at Mike’s college graduation party. That night I realized it wasn’t an odd match at all… they are totally perfect for each other and I’m so excited to photograph their wedding in September and at the same time celebrate with all of our friends.

With only one month left until their wedding, we were running out of time to do an engagement session, so early one Sunday morning we drove up to the Tehachapi Mountains of Southern California (about 2 hours north of Los Angeles) where they have all of these amazing hills covered with windmills. They chose the location and I was so happy to try something different in that landscape since they were up for experimenting!

Every now and then I like to step out of my comfort zone and come up with something a little different, and I knew Mike and Raci were game! With a little off-camera lighting, a bright, beautiful landscape, and two willing models, these are the images I was able to create.

I think this is my favorite. One friend says it looks like their album cover… I happen to agree.

Sean & Vic’s Wedding: The Canary Hotel – Santa Barbara, CA Part II

Steven’s Best Man speech was quite possibly the best I’ve ever heard. Knowing Steven, I knew it would be a thoughtful speech punctuated with really funny jokes and he did not disappoint! He had the whole room laughing…

Sean & Vic’s Wedding – The Canary Hotel – Santa Barbara, CA – Part I

Sean, his twin brother Steven and I went to high school together and I was really honored that Sean asked me to photograph his wedding in Santa Barbara at The Canary Hotel. He and Vic met at UC Santa Barbara and soon after graduating they both moved to Boston for grad school, so I never had the pleasure of meeting Vic before the wedding day. Throughout the day, I saw just how perfect they are for each other and was so happy I could document the ceremony and fun party afterward. I have a LOT of favorites from the day, so there will be a Part II post soon.

The Canary Hotel is this great hotel in Santa Barbara and it has this awesome wallpaper lining the hallways. Loved the color and texture as a background to Vic’s beautiful vintage-inspired gown.
