A Weekend in South Lake Tahoe

March 30, 2009

I spent the past 4 days up in South Lake Tahoe and had an absolutely amazing time. Gorgeous scenery, fun people, awesome food, snowmobiling, snowboarding and relaxing. Whether we were driving around the lake just for the views, sitting on our hotel room balcony overlooking the lake, or out on the snowmobile trail, I couldn’t help but wanting to take photos of everything. However, I didn’t take many… I’ll go back and have more of a photo-oriented trip sometime soon. Maybe a fashion shoot in the woods?? The ideas are already developing in my head…

Here are a few of the photos that I actually did take this weekend.

A quick shot of the view on the road into Tahoe.

Here’s a shot my friend Katie got of me while we were enjoying the views of Emerald Bay. I was actually borrowing that camera in my hand, so I’ll have to post the photos I got there later.

Finally, a shot I got with my point-and-shoot camera while snowboarding. This shot does not do the view justice, but the views from the top of Heavenly made this my favorite place I have ever snowboarded…

I cannot wait to go back.

Happy Monday, everyone!

Kunal & Allison Revisited & Simple Things to Make You Happy

March 19, 2009

I was finishing up the final edits of this shoot Meg and I did with Kunal & Allison and found two more photos that I think are blog-worthy, but for some reason didn’t make the original post.

In other news, I spent sometime with Grandpa today, which I do as often as I can. While I was making some lunch for him and my great aunt, they were discussing how pretty a greeting card was that my great aunt had received from her daughter. Referring to the little girl on the front of the painted greeting card who is playing on a beach with a pail, Grandpa said, “It’s like she knows what life is about: finding simple things to make you happy.”

These words struck a chord in me. Grandpa, you couldn’t have said it any better! Here’s a quick shot I took of the card on my iPhone (so excuse the lack of creativity here…) :)

Simple things that have made me happy today:

- My dog Wolfie sauntering into my office, on his own accord, just to say hi.

- Having just enough creamer for one more cup of coffee.

- Walking outside and realizing I didn’t need a sweater because the weather was perfect for a tank top.

What simple things make you happy?

Edmund & Brooke: Just for Fun

March 14, 2009

Last weekend I spent a really fun afternoon with Edmund and Brooke, a lovely couple who have been married for about a year and a half and just wanted some great images to place around their home. Edmund is a fellow photographer– I forget exactly how we got in touch with each other, but it was thanks to some kind of online form of communication. (Blog comment? B School? email? All of the above?) I love getting to know other photographers, especially photographers in the area because it’s always nice to have people to contact for advice, or just to go out on fun shoots together. The day of our shoot was the first day we actually had the pleasure of meeting in person, and he and Brooke are so much fun! They are sweet and kind and were great in front of the camera.

This shoot was a fun challenge because of the time of day we had to shoot and because I wasn’t familiar with the area, but that really made me think out of the box. Thanks to my friend Katie for keeping me company on the drive to Victorville and then being an excellent reflector holder during the shoot!

Love Brooke’s expression in these. Happiness.

Love this one, too.

Edmund is not only a talented photographer, he is also a very skilled skater. He thought it’d be fun to incorporate some skate tricks into some of the shots. Loved it!

Finally, I took a few portraits of Edmund alone for his Web site. Love the three of these… I think they portray the fun, kind guy behind the lens.

Brooke and Edmund,

Thanks for such a fun afternoon! Sorry we couldn’t grab dinner together, but we will get together again soon!

Happy Saturday, everyone!

Just for Fun: Kunal Nayyar and Allison Paige

March 8, 2009

Kunal is an actor. You might recognize him as one of the nerds from the CBS show The Big Bang Theory. He is also a really nice, fun, and energetic guy, so I was really excited when Meg told me he wanted us to team up to do an editorial-type shoot for him! We were also really excited to have model/actress Allison Paige join us for the shoot! She totally rocked and added the perfect feminine touch to our themed shoot.

I had an amazing day shooting with Meg, Kunal, Allison and Morgan Cox, our lovely stylist for the day! And I had an equally amazing time editing and doing all the post-production on these images. It is so great to be able to go out and shoot for fun and have complete creative license to process the images in a way I wouldn’t necessarily process a wedding. It’s a way I keep inspired and creatively fresh… and it totally makes me happy.

Here are my favorites from the day! As you can see, the chemistry these two had was amazing. They would just stand there and do these amazing things– Meg and I would look at each other like “Are you kidding me? They are awesome!”

Meg knew about these train tracks that had an awesome view of the downtown skyline. I’m pretty sure we weren’t supposed to be here… but my motto is it’s better to ask for forgiveness than for permission. Anything for killer images.

This what I’m talking about as far as complete creative license to do whatever I want. I pushed this one pretty far with all the texture… I love pushing the envelope in certain situations.

Finally– just some STUNNING images of the STUNNING Allison Paige. Those eyes, that hair and that complexion… Super beautiful.

Gunfight at the O.K. Corral movie To our awesome team for the day! You all were so much fun! Can we do this at least once a month?? ;)

If anyone else is interested in doing this type of shoot for their engagement session, or just because, let me know! I absolutley love shooting like this and am up for it anytime!

Happy Sunday!

Sneak Peek… again. :)

March 3, 2009

Because I’m so excited about this shoot, but I can’t get to all of the images just yet, I’m posting another “sneak peek” image I just love from the shoot on Sunday. We really had a fantastic time at this location.
