Gustav

July 1, 2008

Three posts in one day? Craziness. I know. I just have so many photos that I want to get out there, and so many things I want to talk about.

As I posted before, I spent the weekend up in the Bay Area to visit my friend Kevin and to just have a mini-escape from So Cal for a bit since I had a free weekend with no shoots (very uncommon during wedding season). I took a bunch of photos while I was up there, and most of them don’t fit together in one series, so I’ve decided to break it up a bit. Today’s post is all about one of the best dogs in the world, Gustav.

Gustav is Kevin’s Great Dane. He’s about 1 1/2 years old and is seriously so much like a goofy human it’s ridiculous. Kevin has raised him well. He’s well-trained, responds to commands (most of the time), sits on a couch like a person (it’s pretty hilarious to see, actually), likes to play, and is just a great dog all-around.  Of course, I still love Wolfie, but he still has a lot to learn. For example, it’s not nice to eat my new sun dress while I’m trying to work on my tan by the pool, or chew on my sunglasses just because I left them on the coffee table, or gnaw on my sandals while my back is turned… or…. well you see my point. He still behaves very much like a puppy even though he’s almost the same age as Gustav!

Anyway, here are some of my favorite photos I was able to snap of Gustav this weekend.

An attempt to grab a shot, but he moved too quickly. There’s something about it that I like, though.

Hands-free California

July 1, 2008

The Haunting movies Today is the first day of the new law in California that states that every driver must use a hands-free device if they wish to talk on the phone while driving. Drivers younger than 18 can’t talk on the phone while driving at all.

I’ve known about this new law for more than a year and I have yet to purchase a Bluetooth headset. I’ve always thought that these hands-free devices are so obnoxious. People walk around talking to people, but because you can’t tell they’re wearing a headset you think they’re talking to you, or to themselves. Then there are the people I remember seeing walking around campus when I was in college and grad school — they would have a headset on their ear having a conversation, but they would be holding their phone in their hand out in front of them! Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of actually using the hands-free device?

Maybe it’s just me, but I have always detected a bit of arrogance from the people I’ve seen walking around with their Bluetooth devices on their ear… I think this is why I’ve known about the new law for more than a year and still have not purchased one of those things. I understand the idea behind the law– it’s attempting to make us all safer on the roads — but there’s something about that headset I don’t think I’ll ever like… Regardless of my personal feelings about those little gadgets, I’ll be out shopping for one at some point today.

Does anyone else feel this way about these things??

Rachel & Todd's Wedding: Montecito Country Club

July 1, 2008

Last month I joined Kim Fox in shooting an absolutely gorgeous wedding at the Montecito Country Club in Montecito, California. This is a really gorgeous, classy-yet-comfortable venue with some of the most stunning views of the California coast and the Santa Barbara area. Rachel and Todd were also such a delightful couple, so the whole day was just perfect.

I have a lot of photos from this wedding to post, so enough of the chatter and onto the images!
